The cuttlefish was found on one of my many wanders along the beaches here in South West Cornwall. The bookmark comes with a choice of Liberty cord and will have a complimenting glass bead or beads. About Cuttlefish Cuttlefish have a unique internal shell, called the cuttlebone, that is used for control of buoyancy. By adding different amounts of liquid or gas into tiny holes within the cuttlebone, they can change their buoyancy, making them float up or down. It’s this cuttlebone that washes up on the beaches where I collect it to use in my jewellery making. Each species of cuttlefish has its own distinct shape, size, and pattern of ridges or texture.
