Description Flowering Almond – Double Crimson Prunus amygdalus ‘purpurea’ HEIGHT: 4.0m WIDTH: 3.0m *height & width at maturity FORM: upright, spreading vase-shaped GROWTH RATE: Slow to moderate FOLIAGE: Glossy dark purple to red, narrow leave up to 12cm long with a serrated margin FLOWERS: Double, dark reddish-purple flowers to 4cm wide produced along the bare branches from early to mid Spring. BARK: Young growth is a dark brown-red DESCRIPTION: A small rounded tree, producing masses of double pink blossoms in early Spring along the bare branches. The leaves are long and pointed, being a soft shiny green in colour. A beautiful ornamental tree chosen for its blossom LANDSCAPE USES: Excellent flowering tree suitable for all size gardens. TOLERANCES: Quite adaptable to a varied site conditions, but prefers moist, well drained fertile soils and a position receiving full sun to part-shade. Flowers best in full sun. TREE CARE: Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth. Prune after flowering finishes each season to promote new seasons growth.
